Here's something to get you through the midweek hump, this one coming courtesy of electronic duo O Future. "Stay" is the entrancing latest from the LA-based artists inspired by medieval anchorite nuns.
For those not in the know (including myself), these nuns take a vow of immobility and dedicate their lives completely to their faith, essentially becoming hermits.
It all sounds pretty deep and heavy but Katherine Mills Rymer's operatic vocals, backed by the soaring electronic production from Jens Bjornkjaer, give the song a surprisingly uptempo feel. Discussing the themes behind "Stay" Rymer said:
The whole religious medieval devotion is pretty fascinating, also a bit sexy to me. This communion with their spirituality, sexuality, and all the jumble and insanity of it is astounding.
The driving percussion never lets up as "Stay" arrives at a cathartic climax, leaving you with a feeling of retrospective fulfilment.
It's also worth checking out the video clip influenced by Sinéad O’Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U."
