It's been a while since we've heard anything from the Northeast Party House camp; new single "Youth Allowance" is their first release in almost a year. The Melbourne five-piece started out a few years back building a reputation for their energetic live shows, and were quickly supporting the likes of The Go! Team, Kimbra, and Does It Offend You Yeah? After putting out their first EP Empires back in 2011, they're currently finishing off their debut album, due out early next year.
Northeast Party House have a pretty successful formula, and they don't differ too much from it on "Youth Allowance." Channeling bands like Foals, and especially Bloc Party on this one, they make music to party to -- all frantic percussion and screaming guitar riffs.
This is an exciting return from one of Australia's funnest acts, who'll no doubt be gearing up for the upcoming Summer festival circuit.
