I started getting really into indie music by listening to bands like Doves and Wild Nothing, so I have a special place in my heart for bands who make similar music. Sydney-based band North Arm is one such band, and I'm really pleased to be able to premiere their new single "Careless."
While this type of wistful, dreamy music isn't as in fashion as it might have been a few years back, there are some incredible bands flying the flag, and North Arm is one of the finest exponents. The hovering, spacious soundscapes -- highlighted by plenty of hypnotic, fuzzy guitar riffs -- slide in behind the ghostly vocal arrangements of the band's leader Roderick Smith.
Smith has based his writing around childhood nostalgia, and the music he creates definitely has that vibe to it. I can imagine this track popping up in the soundtrack to a quirky, well-regarded film given its incredibly atmospheric creation.
"Careless" is the first single from North Arm's upcoming debut album which will be out in the coming months.
