Ninetails appeared on Indie Shuffle not too long ago with the beautifully disorientating "
Radiant Hex," the first track to be taken from their upcoming EP,
Quiet Confidence. The LIPA alumni are now back with "An Aria," a single that gloriously maintains the trio's reputation for creating forward-thinking music.
"An Aria" is a song with many facets. Opening with the growl of static, the track builds slowly into a smooth R&B number before breaking down into a loosely constructed kaleidoscope of distorted vocal samples, seductive guitar riffs, and rasping brass. With so many fragments, the song could risk becoming too busy, but Ninetails pull it off expertly, bringing the track's many strands together to create six minutes of beautiful chaos.
"An Aria" is a bold statement, unlike anything you are likely to hear this year. With the release of
Quiet Confidence on March 10 and a support slot for man-of-the-moment Jon Hopkins at Liverpool's Sound City in May, 2014 looks set to be the year that Ninetails garner the attention they deserve.
