I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of dubstep and haven't been for a while, but once I heard this remix of "Mississippi Goddam" by Nina Simone, all my reservations (of the moment) were put to rest. While there isn't much to go off in terms of background info of this Memorecks remix, his Soundcloud does tell us that the track was put together before his tour with Zeds Dead earlier this year.
As soon as the beat drops after Simone's intro, the beastly womps combined with her soulful vocals create a musical solidity that isn't found in a lot of dubstep tracks these days. They play off each other in a timely manner with cuts from the original chiming in whenever the beats get a little heavy. Even when you aren't sure what's about to happen, the music breaks down and whatever the outcome may be, you're in for an audible treat.
Give it a listen and judge for yourself.
