Girl rock has been doing well these days, thanks to the California punk sounds of Best Coast and the nasty-in-a-good-way stylings of Those Darlins. So listening to Nikki Lane's debut release, Gone, Gone, Gone, I find myself drawing comparisons to both contemporary artists and lady balladeers of the past.
Specifically, June Carter Cash
. There's something in Lane's twang that sounds distinctly like June "” if June upped the pop factor just a bit. "Gone, Gone, Gone" is the first track off of Lane's EP of the same name (released June 19), which precedes a full-length album which will be out this fall.
Lane's a sweet-voiced songstress to be certain, and if this track is any indication, I think we can expect good things from Miss Lane.
