Occasionally there comes a chorus that has your attention instantly. Today, I'm sharing one of these instances -- Goldroom's remix of "Mother Protect" by Niki and The Dove, a two-piece from Stockholm. The duo started making music together in early 2010, releasing music on Moshi Moshi and Sub Pop
.
This remix was my first introduction to the band -- but naturally, it led to me seeking out the original. Turns out, that version is significantly more haunting, featuring dark, jungle-drumming. It's unique, that's for sure, and I can't quite make a fair comparison between the two. The change in tone of the original around the 3 minute mark is quite a standout -- something missed in this remix. That's okay, though: the result is two very different songs, which makes this remix pretty legit.
