If I look at you or you at me, there is nothing apart from shape and color. This marks the place for a backstory. The associations we have, stories we've heard, and experiences we share, weave the narratives that become 'you' or 'me'.
Upon reflection, any aspect of 'reality', once scrutinized, becomes more dubious than what we conventionally take it to be. NIHILS' "AM/MA" brings this to mind because, though it was the music that hooked me, it was the backstory that made this song a must-share.
The band explains that they were so moved by Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of the Joker, that the lines between movie and reality began to blur. With a 'think for yourself, question authority' (a nod to Tool) attitude of anarchy, they walked beyond the lights of the big screen, taking a darkened feeling with them, and molding it into what we now have in "AM/MA", which comes off their latest EP, AM/PM.
There's an unconquerable enjoyment that comes from periodically indulging in the more reckless and darker sides of humanity, and "AM/MA" provides a fair dose of just that. I hope you enjoy it.
