Why do we like this?
After an indefinite vacation from music blogging, I relented to the necessary sound of Dave Harrington remixing Nicolas Jaar. The two DARKSIDE collaborators will debut their LP, Psychic, on October 8. For now, though, I'm laying in the ambience of this one.
While Nicolas Jaar's "Why Didn't You Save Me" falls freely and beautifully, comfort serves its purpose on this rework. The familiarity lies in its pulse, and even its haunting melancholia. Tamara's perfectly stilted vocal adds to the wistfulness and foreshadows a juxtaposition of anxiety and beauty. Overall, it's a gorgeous remix in its simplicity and simultaneous depth of emotion "” a characteristic that mirrors Jaar's specific talent.
