Why do we like this?
The underground is always rife with talent, and Ohbliv has quietly and diligently been perfecting the beat through a steady stream of projects. Though his style shares some of the modern leanings of the beat scene, there is a foundation in his sound that extends decades back.
Nickelus F's style might be curiously reminiscent. Years ago, the Richmond, VA rhymer was Drake's close partner. Both artists' penchant towards supple and smooth flows might be due to their time spent in close proximity. But Nickelus seems to take himself less serious, which makes for generally more enjoyable and less melodramatic performances.
Ohbliv and Nickelus F joined together a while back for their Yellow Gold project -- a full collection of original rhymes over original production. One of my favorites is "Just Don't Know," a feel-good breeze. The Canadian MCs seamless, carefree delivery is made for Bliv's sunny composition.
