With 808 heavy bass, relative newcomer Nick AM makes relevant use of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown."
Taking liberal liberty with West's vocal, the New York producer finds himself in the same room with some of the scene's most prominent figures in the dirty tech sound; his interpretation of "Love Lockdown" is current, feels big, and heady all at the same time.
The gorgeous simplicity of a good kick and 808 pattern shines through - a trend we've been seeing more and more in underground house in recent months - and the ample amount of bounce paired with the classic sample resonates and rattles with the soul. It's got the hip-hop flipped house groove that's infectious as hell. It feels good. It feels slinky. But above else, it feels like it came out of nowhere much like when Zhu put out "Moves Like Ms. Jackson" a few years ago.
What a lovely surprise for the weekend.
