Fact Mag, in association with Main Idea, have released a short documentary on rapper Freddie Gibbs where he discusses his craft and his future in the music industry.
The two and a half minute video filmed by Main Idea’s JMP & Joey Szela features insights from the Gary, Indiana rapper as he looks back on a near-decade long career in the game.
By his own admission, Gibbs is now in a privileged position where he can “bring out a project any time I want to or tour anytime I want.” This success has continually allowed him the freedom to create on his own terms which he cites as the reason for his rise to the top. “Rap-wise I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in,” he said.
The short documentary, which was shot in PRS Studios in Los Angeles and before he went on stage for one of his gigs, sees the rapper discussing about his plans for the near future.
“I’m into creating my own content… I’m experimenting with a lot of different things, so hopefully people will see that hunger,” he said, before declaring, “I ain’t in the game to stay the same.”
Gibbs’ latest album was last year’s Shadow of A Doubt which saw the rapper drawing heavily on his criminal past again, and especially on his drug dealing background, to craft dense tracks full of his trademark lyrical work.
