Commonly referred to as one of the biggest entertainment events of the year, the Super Bowl attracts millions of viewers every February to see the titans of American football battle it out. In and around the sport, of course, is a dazzling display of musical performance. Here are our top three musical moments that accompanied the Super Bowl showdown.
1. Lady Gaga sings the national anthem, starts journey to become first artist to perform at Super Bowl, Grammys, and Oscars in the same year
It was a busy, yet rewarding 2015 for the multi-faceted entertainer and it doesn't look to be changing anytime soon. Tonight, Gaga took the stage to perform the national anthem. This is the beginning of a record-breaking month where she is set to perform at the Grammys and Oscars along with tonight’s performance, a feat never accomplished before.

It doesn’t seem as though Gaga is holding back in anything these days, as NME reports a new studio album to be in the works for later this year.
“I’ve been writing a lot for the past year” said Gaga in an interview with James Franco. “I'm using my listening from acting in my music more, which is crucial because it's music. Who knew I could listen even more? It's amazing to even talk about.”
This would be Lady Gaga's first album since 2013's Artpop.
2. Coldplay performs their first ever Super Bowl halftime set
It only took Coldplay seventeen years and seven albums to get here, but they’ve done it. Coldplay headlined their first Super Bowl halftime show. In what was certainly expected to be a dazzling spectacle of lights and bright colors, Coldplay performed a mix of classic hits like “Yellow”, “Viva la Vida”, and “Paradise” into a medley with “Adventure of a Lifetime” from their recently released album, A Head Full of Dreams.
Helping out Coldplay with their headline performance were acts from Bruno Mars with Mark Ronson backing up their best-selling single “Uptown Funk” from 2015 album, Uptown Special along with Beyoncé showcasing her new material.
3. Beyoncé gives first ever performance of new song, “Formation” and announces upcoming Formation World Tour
After a fairly quiet 2015, Beyoncé is back. In her first ever live rendition, Beyoncé performed her new hit single “Formation”.
Coming quickly after the end of the halftime show was a short announcement video of her new 2016 Formation World Tour. The new tour will begin April 27th in Miami followed by dates in North America and Europe.
All signs point to a new follow-up album to 2014’s self-titled work, but we can surely expect information to come soon.
