The Top Dawg at Top Dawg Entertainment has just single-handedly ensured that 2016 will be a year for seriously incredible hip-hop. Anthony Tiffith, CEO of TDE, gave us a seat at the record label’s conference table when he shared a whiteboard snapshot of TDE’S 2016 releases and status reports on Instagram.
There’s a lot in the works. For starters, Schoolboy Q, SZA, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock, and Isaiah Rashad are all set to release solo albums. Jay Rock is unfortunately still in the ER recovering from his motorcycle accident earlier this month, but is on the road to recovery. According to the photo, TDE seems to also be welcoming two new artists, mysteriously listed as “John Doe 1” and “John Doe 2.”
Now for the really intriguing bit. Kendrick Lamar, under the loving moniker K-Dot, is listed alongside three question marks and the note “get Top on the phone.” Could this mean new music from K-Dot? Kendrick also retweeted Top Dawg’s Twitter-shared Instagram post, which may or may not be further confirmation of an upcoming release.
Arguably most exciting of all comes under the category “2017 Possible Release.” Underneath, it reads: “BH (praying),” in all likelihood referring to the long awaited Black Hippy release. This would mark the official debut of the hip hop collaborative supergroup, consisting of Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar. We’re praying right along with you, Dawg.
Furthermore, Tiffith then posted the following to Instagram, hinting that something - it could be one of the above or something totally different - will actually be dropping THIS WEEK.
