If you listen closely, you can hear Mean Girls fans across the world rejoice with yells of, “You go Glenn Coco!”
Confirming multiple times this week in separate interviews, Tina Fey stated that a Mean Girls musical is in the works.
Fey, who wrote the screenplay for the 2004 film, appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday and explained she is currently working with her husband Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin to bring the modern classic to the stage. Richmond will compose the music and Benjamin, whose previous work includes adapting Legally Blonde into a musical, will write the lyrics.
And in case you wanted more proof this was actually happening, the following day Fey then appeared on a New York Times Talk panel discussion for her upcoming movie Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, where the writer was asked by the audience about the musical once again. People really want to know if they can see a “Jingle Bell Rock” dance number or Kevin G rap performance live!
