Going on its fourth year, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Thrival Innovation and Music Festival has just released its 2016 lineup. Taking place at Carrie Furnaces over the course of September 23 and 24, it features a number of veteran musicians, aritsts, and speakers alike.

Unlike most festivals that drop the lineup on their website, Thrival decided to uphold their innovative mission by throwing fans a curveball: Pancake art. That look of confusion/ intrigue on your face? That was my exact reaction. While pancakes are in my top 5 breakfast foods, I wasn't sure what to expect.

That being said, the video is pretty darn cool, and definitely earns its share of creativity points. For 2016, Thrival teamed up with prolific pancake artists Dan and Hank of the social media sensation Dancakes to create a compelling and mouth-watering video announcement.

The lineup features headliners such as EDM showstoppers The Chainsmokers, old-school DJ badasses Thievery Corporation as well as electro-pop sweethearts CHVRCHES. They satisfy your craving for hip hop with Ty Dolla $ign, bring the funk with Lettuce, and satiate the trap-heads with Hud Mo. A solid and eclectic lineup for a relatively small festival!

But the music is only one facet of the festival. While two of the three days are filled with musical talent, Thrival focuses on social innovation, incorporating a wide variety of speakers, panels, and workshops into the agenda. This year's festival will focus on the themes of Lost and Found, AuthentiCity, and The Ripple Effect, featuring a presentation from Dancakes IRL.

One more way Thrival is driving innovation in the music festival sphere? Pricing and programming. While most multi-day festivals charge hundreds of dollars to attend, Thrival boasts a modest $60 for two days of music. The daytime talks and activities are FREE, while keynote evening speeches will set you back a mere $20.

The affordability, impressive lineup, and intellectual programming make this festival one to put on your list if you're in the Pittsburgh area. Learn more about the festival on their official website and be sure to watch Dancakes do their thing on the lineup announcement video
