The Temper Trap is returning to Australian stages this May - for the first time in three years. Rumour has it they’re bringing with them an exclusive taste of their upcoming third album for the shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The Melbourne-based four piece band has been teasing audiences in recent weeks with “Thick As Thieves”, the first track off the new album. The band posted to Facebook: “’Thick as Thieves’ is a little sneak peak to get your earholes tingling for the upcoming record”, and this is exactly what the brooding single does.
In an interview with Triple J, frontman Dougy Mandagi unveiled some details of the highly anticipated release. “There’s a lot more guitars on this record,” he said. “It’s probably more upbeat, up-tempo songs compared to the last record [and] faster songs with a few sombre moments here and there.” One of the tracks was written with Frank Ocean’s Grammy Award-winning producer Malay, who has a successful history with the band stretching as far back as their 2013 sessions in Byron Bay.
The Temper Trap’s debut album of 2009, Conditions, set the bar pretty high after it reached double Platinum sales in Australia. Their self-titled sophomore album also went Platinum, and reached #1 on the ARIA charts four years ago. But fans haven’t forgotten the band in the meantime, with subsequent singles “Trembling Hands” and “Need Your Love” reaching Platinum and Gold status, respectively. The band has sold more than one million albums worldwide in total.
Tickets will be available from Wednesday 23 March, with pre-sale opening Monday 21 March through Frontier Touring.
