The Tallest Man on Earth’s Kristian Matsson has shared A Short Film About Dark Bird is Home. Alongside the short film accompanied a spring and summer tour announcement in both Europe and the US.
The eight minute documentary shares details on the recording process for his latest studio album Dark Bird is Home. Directed by Dan Huiting, the short film is introduced with tranquil scenes of Swedish surrounds, and goes back and forth with clips of Matsson and recording parter, RJ Burton, in the studio.
Matsson narrates the films entirety in both Swedish and English, explaining his year off from touring to write new music. In that period, Matsson stressed the importance of the Summer months and the involvement of Burton:
“This time it wasn’t just going to me in the studio. I promised myself that after last time. Last time it was as cold and dark as Swedish winter gets. I wore headphones, flying, me doing fifty-seven takes on songs I didn’t use, getting stuck in my own head all the time. So I promised myself next time will be in Summer, will be warm. I will wear shorts. I will go swimming when things (don’t) work out. And it won’t just be me.”
The short film concludes with the same clip that made up Dark Bird is Home’s album trailer from February 2015: “All this sadness, guilt, and daydreaming, and hopefulness...Maybe, maybe they come from the same power. Because this not the end. This is fine”
