It's been three long years since 2013's Comeback Machine and the wait for new material from The Strokes has been agonizing.

Now, one man saying a little too much has instilled hope in the indie rock hearts of Strokes fans everywhere. Jesse Kirshbaum, CEO of music media company Nue Agency, spilled the beans yesterday when he tweeted that he was listening to a new Strokes song in the office. The tweet has since been taken down, but of course someone managed to screenshot it before its disappearance:

News of the new single comes after concrete proof that the strokes have been in the studio, and that the band has been booked for upcoming events including the Governer's Ball Festival in New York, based on the assumption that they'd be touting some new music. During a Reddit AMA organizers of The Governor's Ball had this to say:

"They may or may not have some new music in the works for 2016. This would be their first batch of new tunes in, well, just about a half decade. Kind of a big deal. Also, they've played a total of 8 shows in North America in the last decade, so I'd say it's a pretty big deal any time they hit the stage."

New Music and more opportunities to see the strokes: definitely a big deal. Though the wait for new material may be rough we've still got the classics to tide us over until then.
