It's been three years since The Strokes' last release, 2013's Comedown Machine, and while a couple months back The Strokes' manager accidentally teased new material, we've had no concrete news until now.
On the inaugural episode of Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas' radio show Culture Void, Casablancas premiered the first track "Oblivius," and announced that a three track EP Future Present Past would be coming June 3. As if one wasn't enough, The Strokes have also premiered a second song off the EP "Drag Queen," on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio. Besides "Drag Queen," and "Oblivius," Future Present Past will also feature "Threat of Joy," and a remix of "Oblivius," by the band's own Fab Moretti.
So, it may only be three tracks and a remix, and we've already heard them both, but can you really complain? It sure as hell is better than nothing, and one can only hope that their time in the studio may have also led to some extra new tracks, or at least some inspiration, for a new album down the line.
In addition to the EP announcement the band also gathered together for an intimate on-the-couch interview, where they discuss everything from the Super Bowl to the internet and challenging the President to a one-on-one game of basketball. Check out the interview below, listen to "Oblivius," here, and "The Threat Of Joy" here:
