Introducing Adam and Edan, aka B00TY, the L.A.-based duo who are set to release their third single “Carry the Load” this Friday April 29. I asked some questions about their new release, their formation and highlights so far.
"'Carry the Load' was created at a time when we were obsessed with D’Angelo’s album Black Messiah, and we’d also recently seen Flume perfume at FYF," says Edan.
And so the story goes: Edan produced the beat, Adam came in and freestyled most of the lyrics in a couple of takes. After Adam and Edan recorded their vocals, Rhea Drummett, singer on Pharell's Happy, came in to sing on the chorus and bridge of the track. The final production was then done in collaboration with producer/engineer Connor Irias, a core member of the B00TY tribe, both in the studio and onstage. The track also features Decorations frontman, Devon Geyer on bass, Garrett Harney on drums, Jesse McGinty on sax and Nick Setter on guitar. Onstage, B00TY performs as 7-piece live band.
B00TY was formed in the duo’s first year of UCLA. "We started out in my college dorm room freestyling goofy comedy songs with an acoustic guitar. Over the years, the sound moved further away from comedy and developed into something much more honest and soulful."
And this is apparent while watching the video for their first track “Loosen Up” that the two don’t take themselves too seriously where it matters, with the video shot in a local laundromat and the theme of the song being along that exact notion. However, “Carry the Load” is a markedly more serious and soulful track, and it’s closer to the vibe the two are looking to create through B00TY.
Highlights for the duo so far include opening for the “brilliant and hilarious” Reggie Watts at EI Cid in Silver Lake. "Reggie has incredible energy, and, in the same vein as B00TY, they’re having fun and giving you incredible music”.
So, what’s next in store for B00TY? The next track “Holy” is set for release in June, accompanied with a music video directed by Sade Clacken Joseph, starring Golden Globe winning actress and dancer, Sarah Hay, and choreographed by Ida Nowakowska, a current judge on Poland's So You Think You Can Dance.
Well we're certainly excited to hear more from B00TY. Keep an eye out later this year for more releases from the duo.
