The long-awaited Grateful Dead tribute, spearheaded by The Nationals' Aaron and Bryce Dessner, is looming closer and closer, with new tracks having been recently released. Covers from the Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Sharon Von Etten, and Jim James have recently been released, and others previously released are from The National themselves, Courtney Barnett, The War on Drugs, Bruce Hornby and DeYarmond Edison, Phosphorescent, Jenny Lewis, Charles Bradley, and the Menahan Street Band.
Profits from the album are going towards the HIV/AIDS non-profit RedHot and the album has a run time of 6 hours. This is, in fact, quite reminiscent of their 2009 curated masterpiece Dark is the Night featuring covers of Nina Simone, Nick Drake, Handsome Family, Bob Dylan among other monumental artists.
