This past Friday, Motion City Soundtrack announced an official hiatus in a statement via their official website.

On a post entitled “So Long, Farewell,” the five piece rock band first addressed the quiet Winter they’ve had away from playing music. The time off sparked multiple conversations about the long-term future of MCS, where each member admitted to its uncertainty. And in the words of what they call a bittersweet realization: “We have no idea what the future holds, but for now we are done.”

The American rock band has had an unforgettable career, spanning nearly 20 years. Forming back in 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, their single “The Future Freaks Me Out” was the guiding light to the success of their 2003 debut album I Am The Movie. And their sophomore studio album, Commit This to Memory, was produced by Blink-182 frontman Mark Hoppus and spawned their most notable track to date, "Everything is Alright." They've gone on to release four additional albums: Even if it Kills Me, My Dinosaur Life - which was produced on major label Colombia Records, Go, and lastly Panic Stations. But after nearly two decades and six full lengths, Josh, Justin, Jesse, Matt, and Tony mutually agreed to bid farewell to Motion City Soundtrack.

If your heart is currently breaking into a million pieces over the indefinite hiatus, fret not! There’s a sliver of good news: You have one last chance to head out and jam to Motion City Soundtrack live in 2016. Fans can head back to their website for a “very special final tour announcement" on Monday.

You can read the full statement below:

SO LONG, FAREWELL

Hello, friends.

It has been a quiet winter for us. We’ve had some time at home after a very busy 2015. With this time, we’ve been able to think about the past, present, and future of Motion City Soundtrack. All of this thinking has lead to several conversations, and these conversations have lead us to a very bittersweet realization:

We have no idea what the future holds, but for now we are done.

Needless to say, we’re feeling all the feels - you may be as well. If so, or if you’ve ever been touched by our music, we ask you to come out and sing along with us one last time in 2016.

Please stay tuned for a very special final tour announcement on Monday. You can sign up to our email list HERE to be the first to hear the news. We really hope to see each and every one of you out there one more time.

Thanks for all the love over the years. It really means a lot to us - and it always will.

Josh, Justin, Jesse, Matt, and Tony
