Sir Mick Jagger has now joined the list of music legends speaking out over the recent death of David Bowie, The Mirror reports. Mick and Bowie, who became friends in the early 1970s, bonded over a shared love of music, writing, and photography.

The Rolling Stones’ star, like most people, had no idea Bowie was suffering from terminal liver cancer. “I was listening to his album before he died and ahead of it coming out,” he told The Mirror. “I thought I must get in touch with him as I hadn’t seen him in a long time. But he died almost immediately after that. I was very upset.”

Mick paid a special tribute to Bowie in his 1970s TV rock drama Vinyl in early February. Jagger, who is executive producer and creator of the show, said, "The series is a way to honor him. His presence in the series will be a way to pay our respects, a positive way to remember and honor his life."
