Max Quinn’s Onomatopenis have just announced a new 7” EP set for release through LostBoyRecords on May 5. Carpool Tunnel Syndrome will be the first physical release from the Melbourne-based pop-punk band, led by Triple J Unearthed producer Max Quinn.
“Waterloo”, the first single from the EP, has been on regular Triple J Unearthed rotation since its release late last year, capturing the hearts of listeners with its endearingly honest lyrics and distinctive punk edge. To accompany the EP news, Max Quinn’s Onomatopenis released “In The Aeroplane (Mode) Over the Sea”, the latest track from the album. “It’s more or less just a song about living far away from the person you love and saying see you next time, then putting your phone in flight mode and listening to Neutral Milk Hotel on the plan home,” Quinn explained to ToneDeaf.
Recorded at Hercules Studios with Tom And Sean Astill (assistant engineers for Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes LP), with mastering by Andrew Edgeson (Matt Corby, Griswolds) and vinyl mastering from Jacob Munnery (Smith Street Band, The Bennies), Carpool Tunnel Syndrome looks set to be a polished offering of memorable choruses and heartfelt lyrics.
Described by Hysteria Magazine as a “cross between Ball Park Music’s Sam Cromack and The Smith Street Band’s Wil Wagner – endearingly nerdy with a touch of Springsteen”, Quinn’s distinctive originality has seen him support the likes of Camp Cope (who’ve just released a debut album themselves), Alex Lahey, Ceres and Jeff Rosenstock in the past month.
You can pre-order the 7” EP online now through LostBoyRecords.
