Jerry Folk is a Norwegian producer whose unique mix of punchy disco beats, melodic electronica and layered instrumentals has won a special place in the blogosphere.
“Been A While” is the latest downtempo offering from the young producer, who’s also just announced the dates for his debut North American tour including a set at Coachella’s Do LaB stage. His unique style of mixing up new-age dance and deep house with the shuddering vibe of 70s disco saw the producer make waves online at only 17 years of age. Since then, he's gone on to claim No.1 on Hype Machine and pick up more than one million plays on SoundCloud with his disco/funk remix of “Suga Suga”. Now, Folk's well on the way to following in the footsteps of fellow Norwegian electronic talents Cashmere Cat, Todd Terje and Lido.
“I draw inspiration from anywhere and everywhere,” the producer said in an interview with Elektro Daily. “It’s hard to pinpoint exactly where I get inspiration from, but I know I always get creative after having a few days off of music and just taking in certain experiences…Hearing good music makes me want to make good music, and obviously I get a lot of inspiration from disco tracks. My biggest musical influences stem from genres like disco, house, techno, funk and hip-hop, as well as fellow Norwegian producers like Lindstrøm, Todd Terje, Finnebassen, and Lamaitre.”
