Jack Antonoff’s latest musical project is a joint venture with Sony/ATV: a music publishing company, entitled Rough Customer. Earlier this week, the Bleachers frontman and Fun. guitarist officially signed his first client: Grimes, aka Claire Boucher.
But the Canadian synth-pop songstress is so much more than just an inaugural signing for Rough Center. In a Billboard statement, Antonoff expressed, “I wanted to start a publishing company to work with friends who are making important work. It really couldn't be more special to start things with Claire. She's one of my all-time favorite artists and a wonderful person. Her work matters on the highest level and I feel deeply proud to know her, have worked with her and now be involved here as well.”
Antonoff then added that Grimes, who has previously collabed with Bleachers on the Girls soundtrack song “Entopy,” “is a clear statement of what [Rough Customer] is about.”
Sony/ATV is just as approving. “Grimes is a rare and special talent and we are so pleased that she has chosen Rough Customer and Sony/ATV as her publisher. An accomplished songwriter, producer and visual artist, she is truly a triple threat and a phenomenal addition to the Sony/ATV Rough Customer family.”
Working with Grimes embodies what Jack Antonoff was aiming for when he first proposed Rough Center. Serving as a space to collaborate with friends, he is now also, “Creating a community with songwriters banding together to have the opportunity to support one another.”
