Words by Casey Williams

Industry heavyweights Iggy Pop and Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal have joined forces, and will be releasing an album together. Written in secret, and in full independence of any other musical output from either artist, Post Pop Depression is undoubtedly set to be one of the most exciting rock albums of the year.

Earlier this week, the pair premiered their incredible first single "Gardenia" on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert (watch below.) The track is very much Iggy-inspired, stamped with his signature low vocal range, complemented by Homme's unique grunge-punk guitar riffs, which somehow exude both rhythm and drone.

In an interview with the New York Times, Iggy Pop explained that the album was inspired by his ageing, and centers on a thematic question, “What happens after your years of service? And where is the honor?”

The nine track LP comes out on March 18th, and was financed by the duo with the intentions of "being heard - not some quirky thing that we did with our money." Homme has explained that the album largely came about as the result of his admiration of the glam rock legend; “This is a much deserved victory lap for a man who’s not sure if he won. But he did. He may have tunneled underground for lots of that, but he still got to the destination.”

Post Pop Depression will be released on March 18 via Rekords Rekords / Loma Vista / Caroline.
