Let's cut to the chase; while I don't really have anything bad to say about Disclosure or anything other similar English electronic artist(s) with that deep, garage sound(Duke Dumont, Jamie xx , etc.), Gorgon City live is better than most. And for me, the best I've seen in a while. So much that I felt compelled to share a tidbit about it.
The English garage duo are currently out on a co-headlining tour with another great act, Rudimental, and recently came through the Bay Area for a night that went one deeper. Frankly, having a DJ on stage playing their jams is good and all, but we're often left wanting something more. Especially when you come from a rock and roll background, you often miss the key musical elements of drums, guitars, and people actually singing on stage.
These are elements that Gorgon City brings to their live set; live drumming, singing, and simply more energy than you can get from some quasi-twisting of the knobs. Producers Kye "Foamo" Gibbon and Matt "RackNRuin" Robson-Scott had support from a full kit drummer, electronic albeit, and two singers, who collectively stole the show.
While words can't possibly do the experience justice, if you are anywhere remotely a fan of Disclosure and/or a bad time, kidding, go see Gorgon City live and you might see exactly where I am coming from in this ramble. Much love to Rudimental as well for always bring some genuinely good vibes and love to the table.
Gorgon City is gearing up for the release of their second studio album called Kingdom, which will be a double album and released at two different times with the first, Kingdom: Part I coming in August 2016. For more info on their tour, click here.
