The Flaming Lips get to go back to 1992 in a new run of X-Men comics set during the 90's. As if the band didn't look like a psychedelic cartoon on stage already.
The new X-Men '92 will feature more colorful, non-leather clad, 90's style X-Men running security for a Flaming Lips concert, protecting the band from evil robots.
Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne says he's happy to have the X-Men head up security for the band, he only wishes he'd written a song about it first.
Being in an X-Men comic where they (the X-Men themselves) actually run security at one of our shows... I should have written a song about that," ... I mean... before it really happened.
The Flaming Lips aren't the only 90's band to feature in the new comic as The Toadies will also cameo and they're equally stoked about it. Toadies Drummer Mark Reznicek expressed his excitement over the cameo.
Unbelievably cool! As a lifelong fan of comics in general, and X-Men in particular, I couldn't be more excited that the Toadies are appearing as characters in X-Men '92!!"
If you're into actually reading comic books the issue comes out in August other wise you'll have to wait a couple decades for the comic to become a classic and then end up as 2037's biggest blockbuster.
While we wait we can enjoy a classic about Yoshimi defeating evil machines.
