Coachella has been demolishing profit and attendance records year after year, thanks in no small part to its expanded two-week April run established in 2012. Now, it looks like the festival is poised to cement this title, with even more dates in the works.
According to The Desert Sun, talks surrounding a proposed fall Coachella festival are gaining traction, with a decision "imminent." The city of Indio signed an agreement with Goldenvoice, promoters of both Coachella and Stagecoach, allowing the company to host events through 2030, a few years back. The agreement also stipulated that the number of events may increase from three to five. April's packed weekend roster (two for Coachella, one for Stagecoach) leaves Goldenvoice two more weekends ready and available for an autumnal offering.
Bolstered by criticism that Coachella's April dates can become unbearably hot, a fall festival in cooler temperatures seems even more likely to attract the same, if not larger, crowds. An early Desert Sun estimate predicts that the additional festival could earn Goldenvoice somewhere between $65.3 million and $156.4 million a year.
