Stumbling across Elements Festival was a serendipitous affair. After being entrenched in the regional burn scene in Southern California, relocating to the East Coast placed me back at square one, navigating my way back through the depths of reeling day-glo tech-house.
Enter Elements Fest: The single day music and arts festival with fringe-taste appeal and underground allure. It follows a similar structure to festivals like Lighning In A Bottle, engendering a crowd-pleasing introduction to a more esoteric scene.
In a saturated 9-hour window, you can dance to the electro-pop of Prince Fox, turn up the funk with Gramatik, and get weird with the beloved renegades of the Desert Hearts Crew. Whether you're a fan of the melodic electronic of Klingande, Claptone, and Sweater Beats or enjoy the cosmic funk of Opiuo and Deep Jesus, they've curated a comprehensive electronic bill.

Elements 2016 will take place Saturday, August 13th at the industrial Brooklyn Waterfront. In it's third incarnation, the festival includes local eats, immersive art, live performances, and- drum roll please- extreme wakeboarding.
BangOn! NYC has teamed up with Red Bull athlete Steel Lafferty for this year. He will be showing off his wakeboarding skills on various jumps set up on the waterfront.
If you think that's unique, the festival has more plans to surprise and enthrall. While music sets the backdrop for a day of exploration, the festival will host the kitchen sink of visceral stimulation, including "themed art installations, 3D projection mapping, aerial, fire, and circus performances, art cars, rides, local food vendors and a tribal village art market."

Elements is truly individual in its approach to the musical community. The tameness of the branding and headliners distracts from the hidden gems in small font. The lineup has an allure for veteran burners and newcomers alike, meshing the two worlds to create a cohesion through sound.
