This weekend, Eminem announced that his groundbreaking 1999 album The Slim Shady LP will soon be getting a re-release in cassette tape form.

The rapper made the announcement via Twitter, including a link that fans can follow to sign up for more information and early access to the new merch.  The Detroit native originally released the album - his second studio record - through Interscope and Dr Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. It went on to be certified quadruple platinum by The RIAA, and Rolling Stone placed it at no.275 on their 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Overall, it's one of the most important hip-hop albums of the late 90s, and firmly placed Eminem among the greatest rappers of all time.

Eminem's last album was 2013's The Marshall Mathers LP 2

It's a questionable move, sure - most people don't even have cassette players, and they don't hold the same vintage appeal as vinyls. Regardless, it is sure to be a fantastic collectible for all Stans - especially those who struggle to balance their love for aggressive hip-hop with their hipster outlook.
