Famed “American Pie” singer Don Mclean has been charged with misdemeanour domestic violence overnight.
Police were called to his home in Maine, after a 911 call was made around 2 am. The singer was taken into custody and charged, before he was later released on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court in a month’s time.
The 70-year-old singer-songwriter was reportedly charged with the lowest level of criminal assault, according to the police who responded to the call.
Very little other details have been released to the public, other than that no one required any medical attention at the scene.
Mclean became a huge star when in 1971 he recorded “American Pie”, often interpreted as an ode to the deaths of music legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper in a tragic plane crash. The hit was a number one in the charts for four weeks, and was hugely commercially successful.
