Desiigner just got more broads in Atlanta. His sensational song, “Panda,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making him the first American act to do so in 41 weeks. It is also the first rap song in that same span. His achievement displaced Rihanna and Drake’s “Work” on the pole position of the charts.

“Panda” is the first debut song to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” in 2014. It’s also the first chart-topper by a NYC artist since Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind” all the way back in 2009.

Desiigner, real name Sidney Royel Selby III, has had his life change since the release of “Panda.” In addition to working with Kanye West and Mike Dean, he recently signed a publishing deal with SONGS Music Publishing. “Panda” has also gained notoriety for its frequent usage in internet memes.

Notably, Desiigner has come under criticism for similarities between him and Future (with accompanying memes, of course). At a concert in Syracuse, Future called out an unenthusiastic section of the crowd for being Desiigner fans. Desiigner responded, “People gonna try to compare me. It is what it is…Keep doing his thing, but I’m Desiigner.”

His next project, Trap History Month, currently has no set date of release.
