Electro-pop songstress Charli XCX took to The Fader today to announce her latest venture: her own record label, Vroom Vroom Recordings. She's already signed two up-and-coming acts, RIVRS and CuckooLander. "Vroom Vroom Recordings is my new, experimental pop label and it will combine my love for bubblegum pop with mystery and darkness," XCX told The Fader via email. "The artists coming up through it will be sharp, potent, deadly, and ultimately, will leave their mark on pop music."
But the surprises don't stop there! Charli will release a new EP, fittingly titled Vroom Vroom, this Friday via Vroom Vroom Recordings. Her first release since 2014's pop-punk Sucker, this new release will see a return to her atmospheric, genre-bending roots. Just listen to the title track, initially premiered during XCX's guest stint on Julie Adenuga's Beats 1 show this fall, and see for yourself.
About her newest offering, Charli told The Fader:
"I've worked with SOPHIE on the new EP and what we create together speaks for itself. Sometimes we get aggressive, sometimes we get beautiful; he pushes me and I push him. I'm making beautiful party songs right now and this is just the start. The album goes to other places and I can't wait for people to hear. I feel the most creative I have in a long time and I couldn't be more excited for the next chapter."
Vroom Vroom EP is out February 26 on Vroom Vroom Recordings. Check out the tracklist below, and be sure to keep an ear out for her label's talented roster.
