You may not remember Sir Mix-A-Lot, but I guarantee you'll remember his huge single "Baby Got Back." Not only has it got to be one of the most ridiculous songs in history, but it received one helluva resurgence in 2014 when Nicki Minaj essentially remixed it into a viral sensation of her own, "Anaconda."
As it turns out, the '90s hip-hop artists phone number has been re-gifted to a Seattle-based lawyer named Jonathan Nichols.
According to the Seattle Times, Nichols first signed on to the Verizon phone number in 2012, when he moved to the area and needed a local phone number for job interviews. Since then, he's received countless phone calls and messages, sexts, selfies, music and more.
It began when one person sent him a beat, and he began noticing a trend when luxury car dealerships began getting in touch to offer someone named Anthony Ray test rides in Ferraris and Lamborghinis. “I think you have the wrong guy," he would respond. "I’m a broke law student.”
Photos of women in bikinis or less came next, along with invitations, backstage passes and more. Then, on August 12, he received a flurry of birthday messages, including more sexts, selfies, and references to Mix-a-lot's big song. Putting the pieces together, he finally figured it out. Indeed, the rapper's real name is Anthony Ray and his birthday is August 12.
The Seattle Times contacted Mix-A-Lot, and his reaction was priceless.
“Are you serious? That is hilarious. Poor fella.”
“Don’t check any text messages in front of your wife. And don’t answer any texts by saying ‘Yes,’ because people take ‘Yes’ differently with me. And usually you end up opening your wallet.”
“Tell him any really sexy pictures — little in the middle, and if she’s got much back — give them the new number.”
