Before we get to the music, take a quick left turn with me.
I love drag...so much. It's a safe little space for my queer little self and, simply put, it makes me happy. The queens paint their faces, pad their hips, and zip their dresses; transforming into larger-than-life personalities adorned with confidence and airs. And the very best of queens will utilize this confidence and all their talent to make the audience feel at ease, as though they're in good hands, able to get lost in the performance.
Finding good music is the same -- you know you're in good hands, able to sit back, listen, and enjoy. Nana Adjoa's "No Room" is a vivid example of just this. It's an intimate song with effect-heavy synths and an airy-light melody.
Speaking to the track, Adjoa explains:
"I wrote 'No Room' about the feeling of having a conversation with someone which gets stuck in habitual small talk. Trying to control the moment, but leaving no room to discover the moment, each other or something new and unexpected”.
With no room for small talk, all that's left to say is that her highly anticipated debut album, Big Dreaming Ants, is set for release on 24th September. And now I'll leave you to discover the beautiful sounds of Nana Adjoa's "No Room" for yourself. Enjoy...you're in good hands.
