My Bubba consists of the Icelandic Guðbjörg Tómasdóttir (Bubba), who plays acoustic guitar, and Swedish My Larsdotter, who plays the Norwegian Cittra. Together the two share vocal duties to craft a minimalist folk sound that’s warm and inviting.
On their newest album Big Bad Good, My Bubba further refine their gentle touch, whispering sweet melodies across a fragile quiet that’s undeniably absorbing.
Recorded at Figure 8 Recording Studio in Brooklyn in short order, the simplistic nature of the work helps to create an instantly enjoyable atmosphere of intimacy, reinforced by the black and white nude photograph on the album cover.
A superb musical exercise in the fragility of quiet, the end result is a crisp work of lightly constructed folk beauties to pleasantly relax to.
