Why do we like this?
Anyone who has seen Flying Lotus live knows that no matter what Moses or any stone tablet says, the Los Angeles based producer/DJ is a musical god. He's got a knack for finding untapped beauty in obscure tracks. Luckily for his listeners, Steve Ellison (aka Flying Lotus) has dropped a remix of "Rubber," a track off of the 2010 Rubber EP by electro heavyweights Mr. Oizo and Gaspard Augé (Justice).
Now it goes without saying that with Mr. Oizo and Gaspard behind the soundboard, the track needed no remixing, but Flying Lotus has once again brought forth psychedelic grace in ways unimaginable to most musical pundits. His remix is officially titled "Rubber (Flying Lotus Unprotected Sex Mix)" and the track sounds almost as good as the last half of the remix title might feel.
The journey beyond the original Ed Banger beat begins with a laser show transformed into musical notes. Listeners can almost see the visual affects when the music radiates their eardrums, a mental image that not even the likes of a circa 1973 Pink Floyd could duplicate. As the track ascends, the music escalates into a schizophrenic Star Wars excursion with sound affects and samples so space like you would think they'd be on repeat inside the Mos Eisley Cantina. True to form. the musical mastermind keeps his listeners happy by changing up the tempo and mood of the track several times, and as always the talented Mr. Lotus concludes the remix with all his fans yearning for more.
