Why do we like this?
The thing is, when I was growing up and my parents/aunts/whoever would hear music samples from their childhood, it was a point of contention and anger. They would bemoan the fact that artists were re-purposing the songs of their eras, and lecture educate me about where that sample Tupac used originally came from.
Don't get me wrong, knowing the history of the music you listen to is important for sure, but when I hear tracks like MR. INTL's 2010 cut "The Groove," I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT. If producers today want to put all of my favorite songs from the 80s and 90s to sweet house and nu disco beats, I'm all for it. Give me more until my ears bleed. There's no denying Madonna's vocals sit perfectly atop this retro house beat; I'm dancing all the way through, samples and all.
