South African artist Moteho Moleko's talents are usually showcased alongside Jeremy Loops, with whom he has toured extensively over the course of the last few years.
Fortunately, that hasn't detracted him from personal projects, with "Ruse" emerging as the talented wordsmith's first solo outing...ever? I may be wrong on that count, but it's somewhat irrelevant for the time being. What matters is that this track is solid.
Motheo deserves credit, but not all of it. That's because there's an outstanding cast of characters providing the meat and potatoes for the single, including Rob Scott (lead guitar), Daniel Gray (bass), Asher Gamedze (drums), Clem Carr (keys & sax), and Lee Thomson (flugelhorn & trumpet). Top that off with excellent production, and you've got yourself a wonderfully jazzy hip-hop single.
