Alright, maybe this is too oddly specific, but some of those high notes reminded me of Diana Ross playing Dorothy in The Wiz. Just me? Okay, cool, moving on.
But seriously, those crazy high notes cut through the air like a shard of glass. No matter how many times I listen to this track, I can't figure out how Moses Sumney is reaching them so seamlessly.
There are a lot of songs in the world, but this one feels more like a grand piece of art; like it's bigger than just another song to shuffle through. His gospel-like vocals feel holy. Or maybe it’s his heavenly instrumentals or the mystical style of songwriting.
The reverbed sound makes time seem to slow down. Well, that and the poetic lyrics, which you will need to take a minute to digest. Like the first verse: "Hey, after all these years / I'm still here / Fingers outstretched / With your imprint in my bed / A pit so big I lay on the edge / Will love let me down again?
“Me in 20 Years” is off Sumney’s latest album,Grae.
