I cannot get enough of Sydney artist Montaigne. Her style is not only one of the most thrillingly original that I've heard in a long time, but it feels like it evolves with every single song.
We were happy to premiere her evocative last track "Clip My Wings," and now, "In The Dark" once again takes the sound and style she's begun to establish, and pushes it through to new territory. It's darker and deeper than what we've heard before, but it still maintains that electrifying playfulness that makes her sound so unique and free.
Interestingly, Montaigne plays around a lot more with synth effects on this track, and there's even a couple of Daft Punk-y moments toward the end, before breaking out into a falsetto-laden choral section.
It's honestly rare that I find myself loving every single track that an artist puts out, but Montaigne has not made one false step yet.
