Since the release of her first singles "I'm A Fantastic Wreck" and "I Am Not An End," Jessica Cerro, aka Montaigne, has quickly become one of my absolute favorite Sydney artists. With a wonderfully unique voice, musical style, and attitude to boot, it's easy to find plenty of reasons to pay her attention. So, it brings me GREAT pleasure to be premiering her brand new single "Clip My Wings" today.
Showing a distinct musical progression onwards from her 2014 debut EP Life Of Montaigne, "Clip My Wings" is musically stunning: bold and poignant, with bright, confident vocals. The track builds to dense peaks throughout, with strings, pianos, vocal layers, and more adding to the sprawling atmosphere.
In the artist's own words, this song "is about attempting to push back against your oppressors. It is about subtle manipulation, it’s about outsiders and people you love doubting that what you’re going through is actually that bad because it’s so invisible, and it’s about wanting to expose that injustice."
