Ever since I first posted Mononoke's debut single "Alice" on Indie Shuffle back in October, I have been patiently waiting for the mysterious female songstress to flicker back into life with new music. Teased on her
Facebook page for the past week, the Liverpool-based singer-songwriter finally delivered, exposing her breathtaking new single "Bones & Glory" to the world.
With its persistent underlying crackle and recorded speech interjections, "Bones & Glory" is purposely displayed as a rough diamond at its very core. However, as the track grows, you begin to see that this is purely an act of artistic deception. Clinically precise, the track's echoing beat, expansive synths, and heavenly vocals are all delivered with an ice-cold charm and beauty that is overwhelmingly seductive.
Although sweet and endearing on the outside, Mononoke's plush, pop ballad casts an intriguing dark shadow upon the listener; it leaves you at its conclusion somewhere in-between the bones of death and the glory of life.
