Taking inspiration from Alice In Wonderland, Liverpool based singer-songwriter Mononoke's "Alice" is a fragile single that uses the children's novel as a metaphor for her own broken heart. The age-old love song stereotype is probably exhausted way too often by artists these days, however, Mononoke's dark love tale seems to herald a magical depth in its story line that extends way beyond most other generic love songs.
Hauntingly sparse, "Alice" opens with spacey hand-clicks, a lonely piano, and whispering synths that blend mystically beneath Mononoke's stunningly sweet vocals. There is something so terribly beautiful about the song's lyrics, particularly the line, "Down the rabbit hole he left you alone, you call that love?"
