I needed this song today. My energy has been sucked out by someone who is more difficult to deal with than any other person I have ever known. I would normally give you the advice to simply walk away, but in this case that is impossible.
Anyway, the title of this tune is "Not Given Up," and the tempo and mood say exactly that. It's more of an instrumental, and while it's raining here in NYC and I'm hammering away at my keyboard, it's exactly the dose of sonic medication I need.
It's the 4/4 that won't quit that keeps the attitude in the right direction; a positive direction where all things feel as if they will somehow turn out ok, despite the current happenings. The smooth, out-of-the-way drums add to that pace.
And then there's the vocals, which serves as just another instrument on the track and doesn't get in the way either. Mona Vale places it perfectly to make the tune about the mood and vibe over anything that he really has to say. Music should do that on its own, anyway—talk to us in these ways.
The biggest thing I get from listening to this five minute monster is that no matter how grey today seems to be, I know that tomorrow things will be bright again because they always end up that way.
