While driving one afternoon I had the pleasure of stumbling across "Speeding 72" by Momma. This is from their third album, Household Name, which came out on July 1st, 2022. The trio consisting of Etta Friedman, Allegra Weingarten, and Zach Fenton sonically mesh as the song takes you on an adventure.
The guitar work has a real drive to it. The sound is clean but has just enough distortion to really push the composition further. It's the kind of guitar style that is reminiscent of 90's alternative mixed with a bit of that early 2000's indie sound.
The vocals come in and add an entirely different dynamic to the sound. They sound almost dreamlike as they layer over the drums, bass, and guitar; but the flow is absolutely perfect. The music has a bite to it but the vocals tame the sound into a really nice medium.
Listening to "Speeding 72" really makes me feel like I'm driving down the highway into the great unknown. My mind is clear, the weather is perfect and all I can see is what's in front of me.
