Sounds like:
Mr. Scruff,
Quantic,
Skream
Why do we like this?
You should probably ignore the "Sounds like" part of today's post. Sure, this sounds more like Mr. Scruff, Quantic (the whole Ninja Tune crew, really) than it does anything else contemporary, but what it really sounds like is early 20th century swing, an area where my knowledge of artists is decidedly hazy.
With the vocals stripped out, this re-edit keeps the distinctive tune, but it now feels more appropriate in a sleazy Chicago speakeasy than an Ibizan superclub, or wherever it is Moloko's fans hangout.
Overall, if you liked my recent Skream post, this ought to be up your alley. It has the same cool, jazz cafe feel. Listen to these two in succesion, and I promise you, flappers will appear out of nowhere!
